Just a little Doris Day....

So the other day, I was kinda just chilling at work (I'm a bagger at a grocery store- its pretty fascinating- in case your wondering that was definitely sarcasm lol), when I see some magazine on the rack. And guess what?!??!?!?!?! Doris Day is still alive! Can you believe that? I was floored. I thought she had died a couple years ago. So I look at one of my coworkers whose probably in her late thirties and I say, "Amy! Doris Day is STILL alive!"

She gives me this weird look and says, "Who the heck is Doris Day?"

I stared at her in disbelief. she had NEVER heard of Doris Day. I was flabbergasted. I glanced over at my other coworker, an older lady who mainly just works the "U-scans." "Nan, Amy has never heard of Doris Day!"

Nan's jaw dropped. "How can you not know of Doris Day?" she asked. Then she launched into "Secret Love" and "Que Sera Sera," both well known songs of Day. An older gentleman was checking out at the "U-scans" and was listening intently to our conversation. Nan and I were spouting off names of the movies that Doris had made and who the male lead was in each, and that she had done a couple pictures with Alfred Hitchcock (who in my personal opinion was a mastermind of a director....but who doesn't just love Hitch?)

Finally the old man piped in. "Wait a second, young lady." he said as I was in mid-sentence of saying how great Doris was in "The Young at Heart" with Frank Sinatra. "How do you know all these actors, actresses, movies, and directors?! You can't be more than twenty-six years old!"

I blushed deep red. " I am nineteen."

"Exactly! You are a young 'un!"

"Well, sir, old movies and old music are my passion. I love all of them, and I learn as much as I can about them."

"I see. Well you keep that up. Most young people your age don't have a clue about what they are missing out on!"

I smiled and "Don't worry, sir, I will."

It was so great to make that old gentleman's night and to show him that not all young people are punks who are on drugs, and have some style and taste in movies and music. Haha

God Bless 'til I get back from Beeton-ton!
